10/06/2017
Ryan Gilardy and Peter Swenson sampled the water from the fishtank after water in tank had be stagnate over the summer( 3.5 Months).
Microscopic analysis of the fish tank water sample revealed multiple bio-contaminates:
Water mold (phyla Oomycota) had engulfed dead ant floating in water.
Some Green algae was present.
A unicellular parasite was also viewed feeding on dead ant. (Method of locomotion was to anterior spinning flagella)
Further analysis with proper stain can be done for a more comprehensive classification.
*Suggest sterilizing and pumping water with sump pump(Ryan has sump) and wiping tank clean. Replace with Reverse Osmosis water source. If water is to sit stagnant in future and proper sterile environment must be maintained with taped or syran wrapped seals. Note a plastic cover failed to keep insects and the contaminants carried by insects out of tanks. //Posted by Peter + Ryan
