7.1: Flame-Drying Glassware

( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)

Table 7.1: Procedural summary for flame drying glassware.

Clamp the flask to be dried (and stir bar if using) to a ring stand or latticework with an extension clamp.

Remove any vinyl sleeves on the clamps as they will catch on fire.

Heat the flask with a Bunsen burner or heat gun for several minutes until all the fog is removed and glassware is scorching hot. Handle hot glassware with thick gloves. Cool in a water-free environment (in a desiccator, under a stream of inert gas, or with a drying tube).
