Chemistry of Mendelevium

  • Page ID
  • Mendelevium (after Dmitri Mendeleev) was first synthesized in 1955 by Ghiorso, Harvey, Choppin, Thompson and Seaborg (see element 106). Es-253 was bombarded with alpha particles, ejecting a neutron and yielding a nucleus of Md-256. The most stable isotope is Md-258 with a half-life of 56 days.
