Keep your level of inquiry in mind as you create this section. Lab materials desiged for lower levels of inquiry might have detailed introduction sections, while those with higher levels of inquiry might provide only a brief overview.
Introductions that include summarizing or interesting visualizations can help draw interest in the topic. A placeholder for a figure is provided below. This placeholder was created through the Elements menu at the top of this editor window. Choose Elements > Templates > Template:AddFigureSingle.
Figures can be referenced using the page index template \(\PageIndex{1}\). You'll need to edit this page to see the code that creates the page index. Unfortunately, you must manually change the page index number for this to be useful - but then the figure number will be automatically generated according to the section number. This is helpful for automatically adjusting numbers in a larger text.
Remember to choose a license for your work – my favorite is the CC BY-NC-SA license, so I add "(CC BY_NC_SA; Kathryn Haas)" to my original figures. But I am no expert on licensing, and we should defer to the CLC Innovators project on this point. You can manually add your license to your entire "book" using the Page Settings (right above the page title). If you create your own figures or use figures from other creators, add the license to the figure caption in the place indicated by the Template:AddFigureSingle template.
