Post-Translational Modification
( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)
The chemical modification of an amino acid residue in a peptide molecule is called post-translational modification, the consequence of which is the occurrence of nonstandard amino acids in peptides.
eg: The protein collagen contains 5-hydroxylysine, a nonstandard amino acid, which is formed by the modification of lysine, a standard amino acid, after the collagen molecule is synthesized.
