Cliches

Nerds, jocks, band members, skaters, cheerleaders, Goths…c liques! Do you belong to a clique? Are you a member of a crowd? Most teens tend to belong to either a group or a crowd based upon their interests. The interests that keep a group together may be a hobby or in a particular interest. It is this interest that keeps the people together or keep the groups of people conforming. Conformity. allows teens to face the world with others and not have to go through the emotional rollercoaster of adolescence and of life by themselves. Groups differ in size and how strictly the "rules" or norms must be followed. A group whose rules must be followed can be called a gang.

Conformity Going with the norms of society

Gangs are a rebellious, antisocial group with strict rules. These rules are not accepted by society and generally involve trouble with the law. This kind of trouble can cause an individual to become a juvenile delinquent Factors contributing to juvenile delinquency can be tied to socioeconomic issues—for example, low income and single family homes. However, this is not always the case. We have seen a correlation between low income housing and delinquency, but not causation. In fact, the factor that runs through many delinquents is their relationship with their father. A father who is aggressive, irresponsible, and unaffectionate increases the risk of juvenile delinquency. When the father of a teen has had criminal activity or substance abuse, this increases the risk of juvenile delinquency even more. Interpersonal involvement and extracurricular activities decreases a teen’s risk of getting into trouble.
