The properties of water are what allow life to exist on Earth. Water is polar molecule, because of the polar covalent bond formed between the two hydrogen atoms and the oxygen atom. In a water molecule the region around the oxygen is slightly negative and the areas near the hydrogen are slightly positive.
This polar covalent bond in water creates the following three important properties of water:
- high specific heat
- cohesion
- adhesion
