The macroscopic level includes anything seen with the naked eye and the microscopic level includes atoms and molecules, things not seen with the naked eye. Both levels describe matter. Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass and can be in three states: Solid, Liquid, or Gas.

In the case of the 1-bromo-4-tert-butylcyclohexane isomers, the tert-butyl group is so large that it will always assume an equatorial orientation, leaving the bromine to be axial in the cis-isomer and equatorial in the trans.

The metal-carbon bond may be transient or temporary, but if one exists during a reaction or in a compound of interest, we’re squarely in the domain of organometallic chemistry. Despite the denotational importance of the M-C bond, bonds between metals and the other common elements of organic chemistry also appear in OM chemistry: metal-nitrogen, metal-oxygen, metal-ha
