    Definition

A tuple is "container" type of data structure, it is an immutable ordered list and is enclosed in parenthesis, and can contain elements of different data types.(I1, I2, I3...In)

    Origin of "Tuple"

The word "tuple" is derived from the sequence of Latin-based number prefixes used to describe multiples:

    • Single (1)
    • Double/Couple (2)
    • Triple (3)
    • Quadruple (4)
    • Quintuple (5)
    • Sextuple (6)
    • Septuple (7)
    • Octuple (8)
    • etc.

    Overview

    • Example of tuple embedded in a list

    [('fluorine', 9, 18.99840316), ('chlorine', 17, 35.45), ('bromine', 35, 379.9), ('iodine', 53, 126.9045), ('astatine', 85, 209.98715), ('tennessine', 117, 294.211)]

    • Use Parenthesis
      • objects separated by commas
    • Are Immutable and ordered
      • can not change values or append
        • maintain data integrity
    • can be:
      • indexed
      • concatenated
      • nested
      • sliced
