7.07: Fischer Projections
( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)
The Fischer Projection is an alternate way of illustrating the stereochemistry of chiral molecules. Emil Fischer was a German chemist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1902 for his research on sugar and purine molecules. He invented what we call the Fischer Projection to describe the stereocenters found in sugar molecules. We will look at this in more detail later in the year when we discuss sugar chemistry.
