Echellette Grating (Hughey)

( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\)

Name

Echellette Grating.  A diffraction grating has 25,000 grooves uniformly spaced over 25 mm. It is illuminated at normal incidence by white light (380 – 700 nm). Find the angular range of the first-order and second order spectrum produced by the grating.

  1. d (m) = _____________________________________

  1. Sketch an Echellette grating and show how the visible radiation is dispersed according to your calculations in the table above.  Be sure to label ALL aspects of your drawing (e.g., d, θi, θr (λ or color) and n).
