- Be able to explain how there are physical and chemical characteristics of matter that can be probed by various instrumental techniques.
- Define transducer.

- Understand the numerical criteria for selecting analytical methods.
- Relate the usefulness and differences of calibration curves, standard additions, and internal standards (this means be able to create & use them to identify unknown concentrations as well).
