    When importing or exporting large materials or amounts of something cells use endocytosis and exocytosis

    As described in the video on Active Transport, cells use energy to transport material that is in vesicles, into or out of the cell. 

    There are three types of endocytosis, the process of taking things into the cell.

    Exocytosis is the process of moving material out of the cell.
