Solutions

1. Given the following reaction:                                        (hint: balance the equation first)

    Na2SO4    +   2 AgNO3       2  NaNO3      +     Ag2SO4

If you start with 60 mL of a 3.0 M Na2SO4 solution and 40 mL of a 3.0 M AgNO3 solution,

a)  determine the limiting reagent AgNO3

b)  using the information from part a, determine the theoretical yield of Ag2SO4
18.71 g Ag2SO4

c)  determine the number of grams of excess reagent left   17.04 g Na2SO4

2. Given the following equation:

  Ca(OH)2   +  2 HClO4   2 H2O    +   Ca(ClO4)2

a)  If 40 mL of a 1.0 M HClO4 solution is reacted with 60 mL of a 1.5 M Ca(OH)2 solution, determine the limiting reagent    HClO4

b)   Determine the number of moles of H2O produced 0.04 mol H2O

c)   Determine the number of grams of Ca(ClO4)2 produced  4.78 g Ca(ClO4)2

d)   Determine the number of grams of excess reagent left over in  the reaction
5.19 g Ca(OH)2
