    Materials
    • 10 - 24 hole well plates
    • Plastic beral pipets – 8mL
    • Toothpicks
    • Two hotplates, set up in each hood with 800 mL beakers on them

    Chemicals

Prepare 5 sets and place part one and two on one end of bench and part three on the other end.

    Part I

    • 1 L 0.1 M NaHSO4 sodium hydrogen sulfate
    • 1 L 0.1 M Na2SO4 sodium sulfate
    • 20 g Solid NaHSO4 sodium hydrogen sulfate
    • 200 mL Thymol blue indicator solution

    Part II

    • 1 L 1.0 M MgCl2 magnesium chloride
    • 500 mL 0.5 M NaOH sodium hydroxide
    • 500 mL 0.5M Na4EDTA sodium EDTA
    • 200 mL Phenolphtlalein indicator solution

    Part III

    • 500 mL 0.15 M CoCl2 in methanol - (the CoCl2 must be placed in the oven for at least 24 hours before making up the solution. It must not be in the hydrated form.) – Leftovers are in the flammable cabinet
    • 20 g CaCl2 solid
    • 500 mL 0.1 M AgNO3

Place in two bottles, one in each hood.

    200 mL Concentrated hydrochloric acid

Waste bottles needed for part III only. Please label with those chemicals.
