- Box of new beral pipets
- 6 inch test tubes (100)
- Parafilm
Chemicals
All of the solutions are aqueous solutions unless otherwise specified and should have test tube and pipette attached.
5 labeled jars/bottles
- 10 g NaCl
- 10 g NaBr
- 10 g NaI
- 100 mL of cyclohexane
In the hood: 2 bottles of each
- 200 mL of 0.1M NaCl
- 200 mL of 0.1 M NaBr
- 200 mL of 0.1 M NaI
- 500 mL of chlorine water (25 ml of bleach with 10 mL of 6M HCl) dilute to 500 mL. Allow to sit uncovered (in hood) until it stops bubbling. Store in tightly closed amber container with parafilm around the top. Shelf life of about 1 week. Store in 2 separate bottles – Label corrosive - Store in refrigerator
- 400 mL of bromine water (2 mL of Br2 in 400 mL of water) – Br2 is highly corrosive to skin! Stir on hot plate overnight covered with parafilm. Store in 2 separate amber bottles with parafilm around the top – Label corrosive - Store in refrigerator
- 500 mL of iodine water (0.4 g of I2 in 80 mL of MeOH and add 420 mL of water) Store in 2 separate amber bottles with parafilm around the top – Label corrosive - Store in refrigerator
