Psychosis discussionDoes a person diagnosed with either schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder need to be institutionalized? Institution pros: a psychiatrist and nurses have a relationship with the client, medications can be given in the proper doses. Institution cons: should a person be institutionalized forever? Relationships with family and friends will suffer and social stigmas are still there for those who are institutionalized. Home-care pros: less stigmatizing, stronger relationships with family and friends. Home-care cons: out-patient care may not be frequent enough (psychiatrist appointments may be weekly), client must be trusted to take medications
