Gender Theory and “A Jury of Her Peers”

Yesterday you began reading the short story  “A Jury of Her Peers”(linked here and attached below).  Continue reading today.

Remember, as you read, I want you to try keeping a special kind of reading journal.  It’s called a double-entry journal and it’s a great way to think about what you’re reading.  Basically, on the left side of the page, you jot down quotations that you think are significant from your reading.  Then, on the right side of the page, you write down your reactions to the quotations.  Explain why they’re so significant.

In this case, since we’re looking at “A Jury of Her Peers” from a feminist perspective, you should choose quotes that somehow relate to gender.  Then, on the right side, explain what that quote reveals about the roles of men and women in this short story.

Use the template linked here. (Make a copy.) This is worth 30 points.

There's also a study guide attached below.  You may want to print it and review it as you read the short story.  It'll be good preparation for a quiz later this session.
