"The Answer is No"

    The next short story we will examine comes from Egypt and is written
     by Naguib Mahfouz.

    Mr. Mahfouz won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988. The Nobel Prize Foundation describes him as someone "who, through works rich in nuance - now clear-sightedly realistic, now evocatively ambiguous - has formed an Arabian narrative art that applies to all mankind".  

    "The Answer is No" does not provide us with examples of all the types of conflict, but gives us enough to see examples of some of them. Read through the story below.

    As the story is short, read through it slowly. You will complete an assignment on it in the next lesson.
