Proximity to mountains is one factor that determines local climate. As with other communities near mountains, Denver's climate is affacted by how close it is to the Rocky Mountains. Very warm, dry Chinook winds slide down the mountain. Rotor mountains tumble down the mountain, often causing problems for planes. Laminar winds skim across the top and stay high up, causing beautiful lenticular clouds to form. |
