    As we continue to compare body cells to gametes you need to learn the terms diploid and haploid

    Diploid cells have two copies of each chromosome - one from the mother and one from the father. 

    Haploid cells have only one copy of each chromosome.

    How are these two types of cells produced? 

    In the last unit you studied mitosis, cell division that produces two daughter cells that are identical to the parent cell. Mitosis produces diploid cells.

    Now, you need to learn about meiosis, because meiosis produces haploid cells.
