The common name for uncontrolled cell division is cancer.

Cancer cells form disorganized clumps, called tumors. Benign tumors are clustered but can be removed. Malignant tumors metastasize (break away) and can form more tumors.
Cancer cells do not carry out normal or necessary functions. Cancer cells come from normal cells that have had damage to the genes involved in cell-cycle regulation. Carcinogens are substances that are known to promote cancer.
