  • Liquid Chromatography is a term describing a wide variety of different separation methods with the common characteristic that the mobile phase is a liquid.  The scope of liquid chromatography is vast and separations can be performed for complex mixtures of solutes ranging from small ions and molecules to large macromolecules.  Figure 13.1.1 is a graphic illustrating the scope of liquid chromatograph in terms of solute type, solubility characteristics, and molecular mass.
