Step 3 Procedure: Removing the Shell of the Egg
1. Label 3 cups A, B, and C.
2. Pour 350 mL of vinegar into the cups labeled A and B.
3. Submerge 2 eggs in cups A and B. What is your immediate observation, as the eggs are submerged in vinegar? The third egg is placed in cup C without vinegar, this is your control egg. Please take a picture at this stage and embed this individual work picture in the discussion area.
4. Leave the eggs overnight in vinegar to allow the egg shells to dissolve.
Note: A spoon may be used to keep the egg submerged in the vinegar. The vinegar should dissolve all or most of the shell. If the shells are not completely dissolved, you can gently rub the existing egg shell in a circular motion to remove the remaining egg shell. Be careful not to pop the egg. you may leave the egg in the vinegar for a longer period of time. or replace the existing vinegar with fresh vinegar after 6 hours. We will refer to the egg without the shell as the “naked egg”.
5. Remove the vinegar from cups A and B. Rinse the naked eggs with tap water and complete step 4.
