3. Power Supply Connections

    The high voltage power supply connections consist of an anode and a grounding wire. The fabrication of the cathode, which is also connected to the ground post on the back of the power supply, is discussed in the Voltmeter Connection section of this document.

    1. The output cable from the power supply should be cut and stripped so that a platinum electrode wire may be soldered to the cable. Once soldered, the connection should be shielded by using black electrical tape.

    2. This wire is connected from the “HV OUTPUT” connection of the power supply to the anode buffer vial inside of the Plexiglas interlock box. The electrode should puncture the septa and be submerged into the running buffer (background electrolyte).

    3. The power supply MUST also be grounded. The ground wire may be fabricated from a length of 22-gauge electrical wire that is soldered to a plug at one end and stripped bare at the other. The electrode should run from the grounding post on the back of the high voltage power supply to an earth ground connection (e.g. ground of 3-hole wall outlet).
