    Microchip Capillary Electrophoresis*

In this experiment you will learn to utilize capillary electrophoresis microchips and compare the performance of devices made from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/glass and poly(methyl methacrylate), a.k.a. PMMA or Plexiglas. You will evaluate the performance of PMMA and PDMS/glass devices in electrophoretic separations of fluorescently labeled amino acids, using a custom-built instrument. You will also identify the different peaks in your amino acid sample.

*This experiment was developed with support from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, Grant SG-07-043.
