To prepare for the lab final evaluate the following concepts. Make sure you understand and can work problems related to each:

    Safety and General Lab Practices:

    • Explain general laboratory practices related to safety, container labeling, chemical disposal and instrument operation.

    Dimensional Analysis Lab:

    • Define and memorize the conversion factors between base units and units containing (centi, milli, micro, and kilo) prefixes
    • Calculate a problem similar to any of the post-lab questions
    • Report answers in scientific notation.
    • Report answers to the correct number of significant figures.

    Density of Sucrose Solution Lab:

    • Define and calculate percent error.
    • Answer questions similar to prelab questions 3-4.
    • Determine how specific lab errors could contribute to the density calculation.
    • Calculate the density of a solution.
    • Use the density of a solution to determine the grams of solute present in a solution.

    Percent Composition Lab:

    • Define and calculate percent composition of an element in a compound..
    • Answer questions similar to prelab question 3, postlab question 1,2 or 4.
    • Use data to determine the mol ratio of metal to H2.
    • Use lab data to calculate molar mass of an unknown metal.

    Reactions of Calcium Lab:

    • Use reaction stoichiometry to calculate quantities in chemical reactions.
    • Balance chemical equations.
    • Answer questions similar to pre-lab 1-2, post-lab 1-2.

    Limiting Reactant Lab:

    • Discuss the concepts of limiting reactant, theoretical yield and percent yield.
    • Calculate theorietical yield.
    • Determine the limiting reactant.
    • Calculate percent yield.
    • Perform calculations similar to those in pre-lab question 1, post-lab question 2, and the “beaker” calculations.

    Reactions and Solubility Lab:

    • Classify chemical reactions by type.
    • Write the net ionic equation for a reaction.
    • Discuss the evidense that a chemical reaction has taken place.
    • Predict the precipitate in a chemical reaction.
    • Be able to answer questions similar to pre-lab question 2-3, post-lab questions, and classification similar to the data section.

Titration of a Carbonated Beverage Lab:

    • Calculate the concentration of an NaOH solution given the volume used to titrate a known mass of KHP.
    • Calculate the concentration of citric acid in a soda given the volume and molarity of a NaOH solution.
    • Answer questions similar to pre-lab 2-3, post-lab 1-3.

Molar Mass of a Volatile Liquid Lab:

    • Calculate molar mass using the ideal gas law and laboratory data.
    • Answer questions similar to pre-lab question 2 or post-lab question 1.

    Calorimetry Lab:

    • Determine whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic.
    • Determine the best ionic compound of to use in a heat pack for treating frostbite based on your experimental results.
    • Calculate the average heat capacity of your calorimeter.
    • Calculate the specific heat of a metal.
    • Answer questions similar to pre-lab 3-4, post-lab 5-6.

    Hess’ Law Lab:

    • Use Hess’ Law to calculate the enthalpy for a reaction.

    Molecular Geometry Lab:

    • Determine the shape of a molecule using the VSEPR.
    • Draw the Lewis structures of a molecule including bond angles and formal charges.
    • If given any molecule, be able to fill in the chart in your data sheets for that molecule.
