Unit 3 Session 3

Welcome to Unit 3 Session 3.  In this session we'll finish reading Hamlet, Acts 4 & 5.  We'll explore what Karl Marx might have to say about all the power struggles in this text.

Here are a few essential questions we'll consider:

  • Why do readers make sense of texts in different ways?

  • How does a text affect my perspectives? How do my perspectives influence my understanding of a text?

  • What was the author trying to make us feel, see, and believe?
  • Why consider the viewpoints in a text? How does reading help me understand others’ experiences?
  • How does note-taking help me summarize and synthesize the message or theme of literary work(s)?

  • How do the generalizations and conclusions that I form and draw from various literary works stretch, compress, and focus my perspective?

  • How do I know when I have done enough to prepare for whole group discussions?
  • When is my participation in whole group discussions just right? Too much? Too little?

What you will learn this week:

-You will read and comprehend Acts 4 and 5 of Hamlet.

-You will summarize information from Acts 4 and 5 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that includes alternate views, rich detail, well-developed paragraphs, and lines of logic.

-You will synthesize information to determine the messages or themes of Hamlet and explain why they are still important today.
