When writing persuasively, you will also need to explain why the data supports your claim. This is where warrant comes in.

What is Warrant?

Warrant "interprets the data and shows how it supports your claim...

• A good warrant will be a reasonable interpretation of facts.
• A good warrant will not make illogical interpretive leaps.
• A good warrant will not assume more than the evidence supports.
• A good warrant may consider and respond to possible counter-arguments."

It is important to note that a a good warrant will also consider counter-arguements or opposition. When considering counter-arguments the writer may agree with some points made by the opposition but the writer will also refute some points and counter the opposition. That means they will say why those arguements are invalid.
