Edgar Allan Poe

Poe As we move through the Romantic Era of writing, and start to apply Marxist Literary Theory, we will take a look at Edgar Allan Poe. Poe lived from 1809-1849.  He was a poet, critic, and short story writer, who is now considered the father of the modern detective story.  Poe contributed greatly to the genres of horror and science fiction and is most known for his gothic style of writing.  Poe is a Dark Romantic who liked to focus on the madness and derangement of the human psyche.
